It's that time of year again folks. Time for a partial payment on some debts we can never repay in full.

Learn more about Project Valour IT here, then, please, pick a link above and give till it hurts. Then give some more.

It's Valour-IT Time Again
Contributed by Bill Faith

The annual fundraising competition for one of my favorite charities runs from Oct 29 through November 11 this year. Please, if you aren't familiar with Valour-IT, visit their home page and educate yourself. Michelle Malkin, Bryan Preston and Blackfive also have very good posts up. I've joined the Air Force team but I know if I don't also include an Army widget Russ and J. D. will have my ass, so take your choice. Just donate. Please.

This post will remain at the top of the site through November 11, 2007.

Have I mentioned Valour-IT lately?

The long road ahead
By Mary Katharine Ham

J.R. Salzman, a milblogger who survived an IED attack in December, has been in surgery all week. He's blogging his recovery on a voice-activated Valour-IT laptop.

My right arm is healing up nicely now. It’s been two weeks since the final surgery when they closed it up. It won’t be long now and they will be removing the stitches. They have a compression sock on it now to help shape it for my first prosthesis. ...

Just one more reminder, friends and neighbors, to hit that Valour-IT button on my sidebar as hard as you can as often as you can. Do it now before you forget again.

Not much I can add to this one. Your instructions:

1. Read the post, follow the links, leave appropriate comments.

2. Hit that Valour-IT button on our sidebar. Hard.

Updates at my place as I have them.

Valour-IT Fundraising Goal Met
Contributed by Bill Faith

Thank you Scott Johnson for the news that Project Valour-IT met and exceeded its $180,000 target for the recent fundraising drive. Fuzzybear Lioness estimates the total amount raised at over $210,000. Watch her site for updates on that. The annual fundraising drive is over for this year but it's always a good time to donate to Valour-IT or any of the Soldiers' Angels projects.

2006 Project Valour-IT Fundraising Competition Starts Today
Contributed by Bill Faith

"At that time I had no use of either hand. I know how humbling it is, how humiliating it feels. And I know how much better I felt, how amazingly more functional I felt, after Soldiers' Angels provided me with a laptop and a loyal reader provided me with the software. I can't wait to do the same, to give that feeling to another soldier at Walter Reed." - Captain Chuck Ziegenfuss at TC Override (wounded in Iraq)

(Aside: Click that picture and scroll down a little to see whose idea it was.)

I don't have the skills to explain Valour-IT any better than that picture and the quote from Capt Z explain it. Read Blackfive's post here then use the button below to credit your donation to the Air Force team or click here and pick a different button. Just give.

*** Update inserted 2006.11.02 ***

John Noonan emails:

Richard S. Lowry, author of Marines in the Garden of Eden and the Gulf War Chronicles was generous enough to donate two personalized copies of each book to Valour-IT. Team Air Force member Fred Griego volunteered his ebay sellers account to auction off the items. Please include these two links in your next Valour-IT update:

Marines in the Garden of Eden Auction

Gulf War Chronicles Auction

*** End 2006.11.02 update ***

***

I'm glad to see Bryan Preston giving the project some publicity. Didn't realize he was a vet but knew he was someone I'd get along with.

***

Captain Ed's aboard too. He's not a vet but his heart's always been in the right place.

***

Thanks, Michelle!

Calling All Angels -
Help Our Wounded Stay in Touch with their Families

Contributed by Bill Faith

From Blackfive:

The call is out.

We need 25 laptops (we have 25 wounded troops requesting them that are Wait-Listed RIGHT NOW) with voice recognition software for our wounded troops to stay in touch with their family and friends.

Most of these troops either have severe burns or wounds to their limbs or have been paralyzed and can't use a standard computer set up. Communication with loved ones is paramount to a successful recovery and Valour-IT seeks to help facilitate that essential communication.

Be a Small Sphere of InfluencePlease help Valour-It with a donation.

[Read on here.]

I've never made any secret of the fact that Soldiers' Angels and Project Valour-IT are two of my favorite causes. (Click that picture and look whose idea it was. Check out our sidebar links.) Nothing's changed, people. Give till it hurts. And then some.

"Help Soldier's Angels Help The Wounded"
Contributed by Bill Faith

That's a damned fine idea every day, but right now especially. Laughing Wolf explains.

Sometimes when I stop and think about it I realize just how much it pisses me off that organizations like Soldiers' Angels and Valour-IT are even needed. Why in Hell can't the government that sends our warriors off to war take proper care of them when they're hurt and need it?
