Bill's Nibbles // Open Post -- 2007.02.25
Some posts, some things I excerpted and linked but I'm sending you to the original post. I may rearrange the order of the items within this post as I add new things that I think belong "above the fold." Please feel free to use this post for comments and trackbacks not related to other posts on the site. If you leave a trackback your post has to include a link to this one and, , comments claiming the sun will rise in the west tomorrow, Chimpy McHitlerburton lied, etc. will be deleted without ever appearing on the site.

Merry Christmas
As we near Christmas Day, I look back at this year of exceptional blessings, not the least of which was an invitation to participate at Old War Dogs. I want to wish each and every Old War Dog the merriest of Christmases and also to offer the same sincere wishes to our troops who on this Christmas will stand in harms way, thousands of miles from home. I hope that each of you will that stumbles across my blog will keep them in your hearts and prayers this Christmas season. |

One Dog, One Voice.
In response to “Thoughts and questions from an Aussie.” I had not planned to post today. Instead I had hoped to gather my thoughts in anticipation of doing my first ever radio interview. Imagine, The Gray Dog being interviewed about blogging. Sure it’s a small local station in Hartland, Wisconsin, but I felt honored to have the opportunity. But that changed this morning when I awoke to discover what had been the top post at OWD. Martin Andrew’s description of Bill Clinton as a “larrikin (loveable rogue – think Paul Hogan),” and his endorsement of Bill, based solely on some humor he found in the Monica Lewinsky affair, left me stunned. Not so much because he said it in a post at OWD, but because this has been a repetitive theme in his email communications to pack members since August. My first reaction was that I would avoid commenting about OWD on the radio. I had planned to be equitable regarding The Gray Dog and OWD. Yet, how could I discuss conservative and military BLOGs while Martin’s post was at the top of OWD’s site. I then had the brilliant idea to literally flood OWD with “Excerpt and Link” posts for the purpose of driving his article off the front page entirely. But, we’re both members of the same pack; One Dog, One Voice. I can not speak for the rest of the dogs who post here. I can only state without equivocation, that Mr. Andrew’s poor taste disguised as humor do not convey the attitude of this mutt. I recently apologized to Mr. Andrew for harsh rebukes I made in emails to him about such comments he has made in the past. I had thought, hoped, that would be the end of his randy obsession with the Clintons. I was mistaken. To anyone who has raised daughters, have younger sisters, or even a wife or mother, the documented abuses Bill Clinton has perpetrated upon women, his willingness to convert Arkansas State Troopers and other aides into pimps, and his general disregard to uphold the laws of this nation hardly qualify him as a “lovable rogue.” Bill and Hillary together stand for nothing except Bill and Hillary. They covet the spotlight and will stop at nothing to achieve power. They both govern based upon polls and will squash anyone who gets in their way. The Clintons had hoped to be the next coming of the Kennedy’s. The problem with Hillary is that she wanted to be John too. Unfortunately, she has the grace and charm of Roseanne Barr mixed with the high intellect and reasoning of Rosie O’Donnell. The fact that you could compare Hillary to anyone as a “babe” must be indicative of just how lonely it is in the Outback. Your final line, “My thoughts anyway and all I can say for my final word is 'Incoming!’” convey the intent of your post. It is a taunt, a grenade, a challenge for someone to respond. Well I’ve wasted more angst and more good BLOG space than I should have to provide you with more fodder than you deserve. I just hope you live up to your last line on this topic and that it is indeed your final word! But then I’m just one dog, one voice. |

October Surprise.
Down to the wire, the October Surprise was unleashed upon the Democrats yesterday. Surprisingly it wasn’t launched by the Republicans, but instead the liberal’s very own “useful idiot” John Kerry. "You know, education - if you make the most of it - you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," With that comment the Old War Dogs are pleased to make known their own 11th hour October surprise: The Old War Dogs Forum is now open for membership at This site was to be announced next week, but in light of Kerry’s comment and the importance of next week’s elections we hope you will visit what promises to be an exciting place for discourse on the issues of the day. Participation does require registration, so don’t be shy. |

RE: GI Zhou’s comments on The fellow who writes Captain's quarters is so far of the truth it begs a reply. His misuse of Second World War history by selective use of examples and distortions, regarding the treatment of American POWs in the European Theatre of War is just plain bullshit. I am not into censorship – show me a true picture of Ann Coulter nekkid anytime – but this guy's comments I believe drags down this site. Well, the only thing GI Zhou and I agree within the first paragraph of his comments is a shared desire to see naked pictures of Ann Coulter. After that we must part ways. If you do not follow the Geneva Conventions you become as bad the terrorists/insurgents themselves and further risk alienating a somewhat hostile population depending on the situation – I'm just not talking Iraq here. First time I heard that the Germans routinely shot pilots in the Second World War, I'm not saying there weren't isolated examples, it wasn't the norm. He neglected to mention the German treatment of captured Russians in the Second World War and even in the Second Wworld war, the Allies respected the Geneva Conventions regarding treatment of Japanese POWs. First, I feel quite certain that no American, British or even Aussie aviator ever took solace in the fact that they were an anomaly, before being shot execution style in the forehead. Just because it is the “first time you heard it” is not sufficient reason to dismiss the claim. Also, if he “neglected to mention the German treatment of captured Russians in the Second World War”, I can only imagine that it was because they suffered worse treatment than their Americans and Brittish Allies. I don’t follow what point you wish to prove here. When you say, “If you do not follow the Geneva Conventions you become as bad the terrorists/insurgents themselves”, you imply that we do not, or may not in the future. I would suggest that the prisoners at Club Gitmo are treated with kid gloves. Literally! Our guards hand the Koran to them wearing gloves. This is before and after serving them meals prepared under the direction of dieticians trained in the Islamic requirements of the prisoner’s daily regimen. Your acknowledgement that the Allies respected the Geneva Conventions regarding treatment of Japanese POWs is fine and dandy. You unfortunately fall short of acknowledging that this was not a two way street. This guy needs a good case of STFU when it comes to this (I doubt if this guy was ever in uniform), as comments like these aid an enemy ( including leftist arseholes in Europe) by exposing 'what the Americans are really like'. I just love the way people who haven't been in the military tell the military what it is doing wrong. If it was so damn easy most militaries would have done it already. I haven’t been to CQ enough to know if he is ex-military or not. I personally don’t think it matters. He is not stating that the military is doing anything wrong; instead he is questioning the politics of a couple of U.S. Senators and ex-Secretary of State. So be it that a couple of them are ex-military and one is an ex-POW. That does not make them untouchables. In summation: 1. The U.S. has always held and will continue to hold a higher standard in the treatment of POWs than our enemies. In the end, Americans should recognize that we are the object of intense hatred throughout the world by our enemies and allies alike. I would ask GI Zhou and others; just why should we give a good flying F%#@ about what the rest of the world thinks? While we continue to debate how gently we treat detainees, the Jihadist will continue to behead, maim and torture without fear of recourse. While we send billions in aid to victims of tidal waves and earthquakes, only to have the honor of wiping their spittle from our faces as our “thank you”, our enemies plan to annihilate us before they can be brought before a world court to be held accountable for their atrocities. This dog finds little reason to worry about how the rest of the world will perceive our process to determine how best to coddle our captured enemy. I just love the way people who haven't been in the military tell the military what it is doing wrong. I just love the way people who aren’t American presume to tell America what she is doing wrong. *** 2006.09.16.00:43 See also and the comments there. |
