Congress Is A Lemon; And I Want My Money Back!
Thanks to Meat Loaf for the core of the headline above. You'll have to buy his CD Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, to hear the rest of the song. So, we are about to see the US Congress agree on some form of a bailout plan for the Wall Street mess. That's the mess that was conceived, originated and created by none other than Congress in 1999, and signed into law by Bill Clinton the same year. In the interests of "transparency" - not to mention truth - the Democrats and other crooks who have no explanation for their treachery against the American people need to develop an honest statement for the public. Their "failed George Bush policy" mantra has worn incredibly thin, is only believed by simpletons, and probably should be revised to something like "a decade of reaction to failed Bill Clinton policies!" Oh, right, we're talking Congressional Democrats. No chance of truth in lending there. Obviously the average American taxpayer has little to no input on how this all plays out, but if I was a member of Connecticut's Congressional delegation, including Sen. Christopher Dodd who was as much a factor in causing this imbroglio as anyone, I would heed what follows very carefully. If the federal government takes over all this "bad debt" that it caused by removing the firewalls between lending institutions, insurance companies, etc., and by opening up the mortgage market to people who couldn't afford mortgages, there is a very real possibility that in the long run the US Treasury will profit. A profit is possible, unlikely as that seems at the moment, because behind the bad paper everyone is talking about there exists real, three-dimensional property - houses that may not be worth as much today as they were the day they were purchased, but will be again in the not-too-distant future. When the market stabilizes and then reverses itself the affected properties will once again regain, then exceed their original sale values. It's a law. It has to happen; the only question will be how long will this take. This happened before back in the FDR administration and the government recovered very nicely, simply by sitting on the absorbed properties until they regained their value, and then unloading them at a profit. I strongly suspect this will happen again. Connecticut Congressman Chris Shays, the last Republican Congressman in New England, says he wants protection for taxpayers should the government turn a profit in a year or two. I want to take that one step further. If the US government makes so much as a dime off of this fiasco, I WANT MY MONEY BACK!! What exactly do I mean by that? This. I want oversight of every dime of taxpayer money that is spent, and every dime of income that results from this "bailout" in any form. I don't want no stinking earmarks, no fast and loose amendments banning drilling for shale oil, no massive influx of tax dollars to NOBama's favorite slush fund - ACORN, or anything of that nature. No golden parachutes or contractually approved severance packages for shit-for-brains corporate executives either. Nada! Nothing! If we take over, not the Congress, but WE the PEOPLE, all bets are off with the creators of this mess. Don't like it? Get the hell out of Dodge! We bail you out, we own you ... and your families too. When the profits start rolling in, to the tune of more than a trillion dollars according to some estimates, I want checks made out to the American taxpayers - not rebates that get taxed as income the next year, either. I want a check paying me back for bailing out a bunch of slime-ball, pond scum Wall Street market manipulators and their corrupt Congressional stooges. I want these checks to be dollar for dollar, dime for dime what the taxpayers put in, plus interest, with nothing, not a single red cent, deducted for administrative expenses. No diversions. None. Do this, and you, meaning Congressional stooges and slime ball, pond scum Wall Street market manipulators, may escape the pitchforks and torches. Maybe. I can't make any guarantees on that. America is pissed! And they are pissed at you Senators, Congresspeople and slime ball, pond scum Wall Street market manipulators. YOU! Do it not, and you will definitely feel the fires of revolution burning your asses. You'll be dragged out of the Capitol, or your hideaways in the country, tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on rail. That is exactly what you deserve now, and I guarantee you it is exactly what you'll get if you try to turn this assault on the American economy into a money-making venture for yourselves and your corrupt, dishonest, classless, money-grubbing cohorts. This is not a threat by the way. It is, however, an uncannily accurate prediction of future events. |

Brace Yourself: Here They Come Again
Hat Tip: Glenn Reynolds While the American people are congratulating themselves for their victory over the Bush-Kennedy-McCain National Suicide Act of 2007, a new and tougher fight is on the horizon. According to The Politico, Harry Reid, along with Mad Jack Murtha and his leader, Nancy Pelosi, plan to set a new deadline for withdrawal from Iraq. They have already concluded that the surge, which went operational only last week, has failed. We have lost the war and have no choice but to bug out and leave Iraq to its fate. The Politico article begins like this:
Nancy's choice of deadline date could not be more appropriate--April Fool's Day. Veterans' groups, loyal military families and others who continue to support the war effort face a daunting task, made harder by the recent defections of important Republican senators and the lamentable loss of prestige incurred by amnesty diehards such as President Bush and Senator McCain. We have to whip up a firestorm of phone calls, e-mails, faxes, and face-to-face encounters with wavering pols. Above all, we will need to counter the Copperhead hordes, who will be out in full cry from now until September. Not a pleasant prospect, now that Summer is here, but it is now or never. |

I hope when the mushroom clouds eventually start rising above the U.S. Reid, Pelosi and Murtha are together so they have a couple of minutes to congratulate each other on how well they handled the war just before they die. Three would be OK. Anything longer is more than they deserve. *** Don't miss Ed's follow-up post . |

The other incidents left me sad; the Helicopter picture left me mad as Hell. Our Iraq vets deserve better (but then, so did we.) No soldier deserves to come back from a war to be told "Oh, never mind, it wasn't important. Thanks for your time anyway. Sorry your friends died for nothing." No Gold Star parent needs to be told "Never mind. It wasn't important to begin with. Sorry about that." Too Darn Dumb to Win?
It hurts to say this. Harry Reid may be wrong when he says we have lost the war, but he's very nearly right. We are on the verge of losing it. Not for any of the reasons cited by war opponents. We are losing quite simply because the PR efforts of this administration, from the White House through the State Department and Pentagon all the way down to the bottom--the CIA I mean--are hopelessly inept. Consider first President Bush, who consistently blows it. The latest example is the statement he issued to accompany his veto of the Dems' "slow bleed" Supplemental Appropriations Bill. He had a wonderful opportunity to really lay into them. He had a golden chance to hold them up to the public scorn and ridicule that they richly deserve. Instead, he settled for a brief, smirking, namby-pamby statement to the effect that the Dem bill was a "recipe for chaos and confusion." I have a message for you, Mr. President: The typical mouth-breathing couch potato [i.e. the typical American citizen] sees and knows nothing about the war we are in except chaos and confusion. Whose fault is that, Mr. President? Yours. You consistently fail to identify the real enemy, a worldwide resurgence of expansionist Islamic jihadism that began in Lebanon in the early 80's after three hundred years of somnolence. You have failed utterly the test of wartime leadership--to alert the public to the mortal danger that confronts them. Just yesterday, the Bush administration stumbled into stifling the last, best hope of mobilizing public support. Bill Faith has the full story . No need for me to elaborate. Read it and weep. |

Joe Katzman has an excellent related post . Bottom line: Replacing HMMWVs with MRAP's saves American lives. The Army and Marines are waiting for money to replace a bunch of 'em. They don't have it yet because the Surrendercrats are playing political games instead of taking care of the troops. It is my fervent and heartfelt hope that when the jihadis finally manage to nuke DC Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Mad Jack Murtha are just far enough from Ground Zero to see the flash and have a split second to realize what happened before the shock front arrives and liquefies their bodies. Catching the three of them somewhere on the left coast for a moonbat convention would be even better, of course. Update after a night's sleep and some time to surf the web a little: I don't really want the Three Ratateers to die in the initial blast. I'd much prefer they die slow lingering deaths trapped in the rubble, preferably under the same rubble pile so they have time to congratulate each other on how well they managed the war. (No, Bill isn't "off his meds again." I'm not wishing any worse fate for the Ratateers than will be suffered by thousands of others if they succeed in implementing their proposed policies.) Let's put it in even simpler terms: Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and a number of other powerful Democrats have bet the future of the Democratic party, and with it their own futures, on an American failure in Iraq. Having done so it's only natural and to be expected that they'll do everything in their power to make their dire predictions come true. Am I questioning their patriotism? Not at all; there's nothing there to question.

In this war, as it was in Vietnam, Americans will not know battlefield defeat. American politicians, at least of your brand Harry, own it, live it, long for it every day that you walk into your Congressional office to collect the people's money and revel in your own inflated self-image. Unfortunately, politicians rarely suffer because of the defeat they work so hard to achieve. It is the Soldiers and their families, not the politicians who suffer, but no one pretends that you care about that.
