Conservative Sense & Sensibility

Gary "Boomer" Adams finally got healthy enough to send me a bio for the site, which I'll have up as soon as he has time to proofread what I did with it. [Update: Please check out Gary's bio here.] He also now has his own key but he's going to need a day or two to figure out TypePad before he's ready to use it. In the mean time, here's something he mailed me:

McCain is being hammered a lot lately.  As is always the case there are differences when it comes to candidates and issues.  This excellent article by Bill Bennett lays out the differences clearly and succinctly.

We in Guam are not able to cast  votes.  We therefore must rely on our friends and relatives back in the mainland to use their precious votes wisely as they see best in the interest of everybody.  This is not a time for casting a vote because of either gender or race as is the possible scenario now.  That is unless you feel that candidate can serve ALL of us well. 

We shall, all of us, never agree on everything.  We may change our minds sometimes and that is what is healthy about looking at both sides of any issue or problem and making a decision based on what is good or at least the best of choices available to us. 

There are several serious issues being debated right now.  The one issue that is most important, IMHO, would be the defense of the nation and the very real war against radical Islam (terrorists).   Lose this one and all is lost.  Think about it.

Vote as you might, but please do so smartly and with your head...not your heart.  We in Guam wish we could be right behind you in line to exercise what should also be our right.  We served to earn that right, but are unable to use it.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.

7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion Of The Christ for financial gain only.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, General Robert E. Lee, Thomas Edison and A.G. Bell.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton, aka Witch One, is normal and a very nice caring person.

17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.

19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and beastiality should be constitutionally protected, but manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese Government is somehow in the best interest to the United States.

21. You have to believe that it's okay to give Federal workers off on Christmas Day, but it's not okay to say "Merry Christmas."

22. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right wing conspiracy.

The arrival off the southern coast of Iran of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle accompanied by a French 5-warship task force raises to 4 the number of Western aircraft carriers cruising within striking distance of Iran.

The US carrier battle groups include the USS Eisenhower, USS Carl Vinson and the USS Ronald Reagan with their normal complement of warships. 

The French admiral aboard the Charles de Gaulle has warned the US Navy not to block its line of retreat in the event fighting does erupt.

In other news, Al Gore has warned that the concentration of military hardware on that side of the world, plus the added tonnage of ships afloat in the region may cause sea levels to rise there and causing the magnetic field to shift to the east.  This could compound the effects of global warming, he said, possibly causing compasses to swing wildly and the earth to wobble.  He presented numerous flip charts diagramming his concerns to a well known motion picture producer.   A deal is reported to be in the works.

In other less important news, Nancy Pelosi was taken hostage by Hezbollah while visiting Syrian president Bashar Assad.  When asked to comment on this event, President Bush said' "I could give a good s**t less".

After only having kept her for two hours, Hezbollah released her in a red light district in Damascus.  A Hezbollah spokesman was quoted as saying "May Allah forgive us for taking this bitch hostage.  My God, you keep her!".   It reportedly took officials eight hours to find her amongst the prostitutes and pimps because she blended in so well.  Wearing a head scarf does complicate identification sometimes.

Boomer: "Iran: Operation Bite"

An interesting article which begs the answer to a question.  Will this happen?

Better than a 50/50 chance, I'd say. 

Iran just keeps pushing the line in the sand further and further, thereby forcing the U. S. to take action.  If not to annihilate, then at least to cause a delay in Iran's plans.  I'd also expect Israel to be involved.  Their very survival depends on Iran being at least crippled.  They stand to suffer horrible damage in any case, war or no war. 

If I was Iran I'd not let my ships move too far from port.  Maybe just leave them tied to the dock.  Not that it would make them any safer from any smart weapons that could be used against them.  Taking hostages was a mistake on their part.  One that could inflict upon them one helluva big bite. 

Basically, no matter what Lady Albright says, negotiation with that bunch of loony bins won't work.  Didn't work with Saddam.  The only thing that will stand a chance to work is F-O-R-C-E and lots of it.  We got it.

May I go out on a limb and say something?  I don't think we're going to see peace in our lifetime.  The world is in it for the long haul.  Sad to say.

WASHINGTON DC, -- The long awaited US military attack on Iran is now on track for the first week of April, specifically for 4 am on April 6, the Good Friday opening of Easter weekend, writes the well-known Russian journalist Andrei Uglanov in the Moscow weekly “Argumenty Nedeli.” Uglanov cites Russian military experts close to the Russian General Staff for his account.

The attack is slated to last for 12 hours, according to Uglanov, from 4 am until 4 pm local time. Friday is the sabbath in Iran. In the course of the attack, code named Operation Bite, about 20 targets are marked for bombing; the list includes uranium enrichment facilities, research centers, and laboratories.

The first reactor at the Bushehr nuclear plant, where Russian engineers are working, is supposed to be spared from destruction. The US attack plan reportedly calls for the Iranian air defense system to be degraded, for numerous Iranian warships to be sunk in the Persian Gulf, and for the most important headquarters of the Iranian armed forces to be wiped out. ...

I sure hope so, because if you miss watching and listening to this veteran's 'message' you've missed a lot. Trust me, the time will pass quickly.

Listen for when he comments about statements made by the one time hippie and anti-war demonstrator who preceded George W. Bush as POTUS and some of the other politicians now bemoaning and criticizing the war in Iraq.  Yes, even nancy pelosi herself recognized the threat Saddam posed.  The concern was those missing WMDs that the left make such an issue of today.  Have they all now suffered a memory lapse of what they said in the past?  All this BEFORE Bush was even elected to office.  Now they blame him for doing what they once viewed as a serious threat?   What we are seeing is all anti-Bush and this seriously impairs their judgment and drives their agendas.  Frankly, they are a sickening lot and sadly now find themselves in positions of power.  Many in the media need to take a look in the mirror too and think long and hard about their reporting of the news.  The Hollywood Bunch should simply butt out and stick to entertaining.

The man speaking in this video hits every nail on the head.  You MUST listen to this one. ..

Air Power

I've seen one of this type for the Navy.  Now one for the Air Force.

This comes with some exhilarating music...have your speakers ON.

At the very bottom you will find links to other especially nice videos.

A bonus is that the video starts out with a few aerial shots of the VALIANT SHIELD exercise held off the coast of Guam less than a year ago.  A B-2 'Spirit' leads a host of Air Force, Marine and Navy fighters overhead three aircraft carriers below.

There's even a shot of a 'Boomer' hard at work refueling a B-2.  To think they get paid to do this..

This is enough to make me want to re-enlist.  But 'they' won't let me back in.  I think it might have something to do with creaky bones.

Fighting battles - ignoring wars

A retired USAF friend of mine sent this to me.  I respect his opinion as it mirrors both my core beliefs and my growing fear of what the future holds for my descendents...and yours as well. 

The following article by Phil Brennan is totally correct IMO.  Those that follow us in another generation or two will have be involved in the most serious clash of ideologies and a conflict like never known before.  We're talking heavy duty weapons.

Like my friend I am NOT a warmonger, but one who prefers hugging and loving over killing each other.  The sad truth of the matter is that Islamist radicals declared war on us infidel non-Muslims long ago.  The future of the free world is at stake...literally.  To save the world from the evil plan of the Muslim fanatics what has to happen is that we, of the free world, must first wake up and recognize the threat and take it seriously.  No more sleeping at the wheel.  It will take ALL of us, and not just in America, but around the world, to join hands and defeat the enemy who has made it's agenda crystal clear.  That is to see us infidels DEAD.

It is en epic confrontation we're seeing develop.  It is NOT 'us', the U. S., against 'them', but the free world against 'them'.  The enemy is a formidable one and a patient one.  We are patient as well, but in an opposite way and to our detriment.  While we dilly dally and hope for the U. N. to fulfill it's obligation, 'they' grow more strong and emboldened.  Their numbers grow each day.  Look at the sympathy their world received because of Israel's recent battle with Hezbollah in Lebanon.  The Bad Guys came away looking like the victim. 

Brennan's article is a long one.  You'd be missing out on a serious 'message' if you fail to read it word for word.

The last line is a short and simple one.  But, it has meaning.  You'd best believe it.

Fighting Battles, Ignoring Wars

We are living in a dream world, caught up in a fantasy that is turning into a nightmare. No matter what the reality, we shield ourselves from it by ignoring any facts that might jolt us into living in the real world.

We are engaged in a war, in a struggle where the enemy can be counted in the tens of millions, located in every corner of the globe. We fight the battles in this war as if they were separate and distinct events, having no connection with the wider conflict of which they are a part. It’s a case of treating the symptoms while ignoring the disease that causes them.

Newt Gingrich has described the conflict as World War III, recognizing that incidents such as the current conflict in Lebanon as battles in that war. He’s right, and we had better pay heed to what he says because even though we don’t comprehend the reality of this world war, our enemies know exactly what it’s all about.

As I have previously written, Hillaire Belloc saw it coming in 1938 when he said, “It has always seemed to me…probable that there would be a resurrection of Islam and that our sons or our grandsons would see the renewal of that tremendous struggle between the Christian culture and what has been for more than a thousand years its greatest opponent.”

"Israeli general plots war with Iran"

Is there any doubt that an 'event' is likely in the Middle East that might make what is going on in Iraq seem like child's play?

It's a no-brainer...a no choice deal for Israel.  It's a sad @ss shame that a little nation such as Israel, who only wants peace in it's own land, has to pick up the sword and do battle with a world class kook when other larger nations sit back and let him have his way.   

I hope the United States is not one to sit idly by and let Israel go it alone.  This has world-wide implications and both China and Russia should be very concerned as well for their own well being.  They cannot allow their dislike of the world's only super power to influence their decision whether or not to abort Iran's evil plan.

Wearing a sheet and a rag on my head holds no appeal for me.  And I still love to look at beautiful ladies too.

It would be nice if the dissidents in Iran that would like to see a regime change could prevail.  Pigs will fly before the maniac in charge is deposed/disposed of.  Maybe an assassination is in order.  Barring that an all-out conflict is likely.  I feel for the good people of Iran.

Israeli general plots war with Iran

JERUSALEM -- Israel has appointed a top general to oversee a war against Iran, prompting speculation that it is preparing for possible military action against Tehran's nuclear program.

Maj. Gen. Elyezer Shkedy, Israel's air force chief, will be overall commander for the "Iran front," military sources told the London Sunday Telegraph.

Powers-Coulter catfight on Hannity & Colmes

I happened to catch Hannity & Colmes on FOX today.  Democratic strategist Kirsten Powers was sitting in for Colmes.  Both are of one-track mind and anti-Bush and averse to receiving anything that makes sense.  It's always anti-Bush. 

The guests were Ann Coulter and a black guy named Brown.  Another Democratic strategist and like Kirsten...extremely anti-Bush. 

I can usually deal with opposing arguments.  But it seems to me that every Democratic strategist I see on FOX is simply not able to be reasoned with.  They seem to never answer any question posed by Sean Hannity, but instead attempt to voice what is the same old BS.  How many times I've seen Sean try to stop the spiel and get a simple answer to a question.  NEVER gets it.  It turns into each trying to outtalk the other and it's hard to make sense of any of what is being said. 

Today's guest Brown seemed to be mocking Sean by grinning from ear to ear and laughing.  That pretty much made anything he had to say NOT APPLICABLE.  At least IMHO. 

Coulter, as usual, came prepared to tell it like it is.  She has a nice way of putting down the Democrats.  Doesn't mince words...just tells it like it is.

I hope some day to hear some Democrat talk and make sense.  They just can't seem to overcome their anti-Bush bias.  Anytime a Democrat anybody is asked about what would they do in the war on terrorism...they just NEVER seem to have a plan.  It is easier to sit back and pot shot at the person in office who has to make the day to day decisions.  And, just like in real life for each of us, we sometimes make mistakes.  Republicans do.  Democrats do too, but it seems they don't think so.  I'm tired of the non-constructive criticism of everything Bush says or does.  Or doesn't do. 

The Muslims, you have to believe, are hoping for a Democratic victory in the coming elections.  WE'LL BE DOOMED FOR SURE!!!

Hezbollah - coming soon to your hometown

When will the U. S. wake up?

Maybe we will wake up, just as the world finally woke up to the terror of the Third Reich, when the horror of terrorism finally exacts a heinous enough toll on the West. But will it be in time? It was almost too late in WWII. 

Maybe just because it was a different language, but  Sheikh Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, at the end reminded me of another great orator and fascist named Hitler.   Israel has said that Nasrallah MUST die and by gosh I agree 100%.  Sooner rather than later.

To paraphrase Ralph Peters:

"The rejection of everything western is complete, with the sole exception of material goods. The warriors of this great rejection are inspired by an inchoate hatred, one that is so primal it cannot be controlled by the well intentioned aid programs, or even prisons.

The rage and hopelessness wrought of Islam's failure to compete in a modern society, and the mullah's inability to eliminate the West's influence on their culture and power, result in their not having any interest in government or society beyond what they can seize from it. It is the outside world, or the Great Satan that is responsible for their failures. For many of them, violence has become a cause in itself. Finally, how can a father hate the West more than he loves his own child?  It just doesn't compute.  The segment with the young boys in 'training' should be enough to scare the bejeesus out of us all who prefer life and love to death.  I guess if we lived in the world they live in we might welcome death as well.

Ahmadinijad: "I dreamt that the USA was rebuilt, and on the top of each house there was a flag."

Bush:  "You know what, Ahmadinijad, it's good that you called because I had a dream too.  In my dream Teheran was rebuilt and on the top of each building there was a flag too."

Excercise Valiant Shield 2006

Several of the nicer pictures from "Valiant Shield", the major exercise that was recently held off the coast of Guam.  Three carriers...side by side.  A rare sight.  And overhead a B-2 "Spirit" with Air Force, Marine and Navy fighters in trail.

I like the picture taken from the carrier deck.  The first one you see will probably be the most popular one of all though.   

There are probably some "things" in the area under the sea that are even deadlier.

Onboard one of the carriers are representatives from the Chinese Navy.  Bet they got an eyeful, didn't they?

Suicide Bomber - BE GONE!!!

Randy from RightWinged.com saw my post and sent a link to http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/greenzone.asp. Boomer, we've been had! I don't do "Memory Hole." The egg on my face stays right where it is for all to see.

Email from Boomer. Boomer has consented to join the Old War Dogs pack but not immediately. In the mean time I have permission to post his emails, of which I trust this is the first of many.

Suicide bomber - BE GONE!!!

As you are aware, suicide bombers have been taking a significant toll on our soldiers and citizens.  This time one was identified enroute to his target and quickly dispatched.

This is NOT for those with a weak stomach, but does give you an example of what our soldiers face each day!   

A backwoods hunter from the Alabama NG spotted this guy, complete with suicide bomber vest, inside a compound in the Green Zone in Iraq.  He used a well placed .50 cal sniper round to stop him.
