VA Increases Travel Reimbursement for Eligible Veterans
Contributed by Bill Faith Thank you Russ Vaughn for emailing me about this. Shame on me for not getting it posted sooner In a nutshell, the VA will now reimburse you 28.5 cents per mile, up from 11 cents, for travel to a VA medical facility for medical care. At the 11 cent mark I didn't consider the amount I could be reimbursed for a trip to Evansville worth the bother to collect; it requires a stop at the cashier's office, which isn't in the same building as most of my appointments. Under the new rates I received more than enough to pay for the gas there and back last week. Ignoring wear and tear on my car, I can now actually turn a profit on trips to the medical facilities I have to go to. With trips to Marion and St Louis coming up in the foreseeable future the increase will seem even more important to me. |
