Mike Nifong’s Crime
Contributed by Russ Vaughn

Check out the networks and the Web on the Mike Nifong trial and what you’re likely to hear is that he committed a grave offense against three upstanding young men, slandering and libeling them in the process of a politically motivated, malicious prosecution. For that and that alone, the little worm should be disbarred for life, banned from the practice of law forever, forbidden even to serve anywhere in the United States as so much as a paralegal or legal secretary, although admittedly, I doubt that is possible.

But the true crime here, folks, is not libel, slander or malicious prosecution. Nope, it goes far beyond that. I don’t know that there’s a name for it, but we all can recognize it for what it is when we pause for a moment to think about it. In a country at war, where unity of the populace in that war effort is already hard found, this despicable little punk of an attorney seized upon a completely selfish, self-serving opportunity to heighten racial tensions in our nation so that he could get elected to a minor office.

That the American press and media played right into his swift, pea-shifting hands tells us volumes about their so-called abilities to sift the truth from all the chaff of political pronouncements. That they foolishly trumpeted his false charges and virtually lynched the young soccer players involved and their completely innocent coach tells us all we need to know about the state of contemporary American media. At the height of the media frenzy, those network bozos did a frenzied flamenco all over their cranks, and are only now beginning to feel the pain. The cynical among us might attribute that to the necessity of the presence of an actual brain for pain to be felt.

OK, getting back to the source of the villainy that metastasized throughout our media organs from that nefarious Nifong bug; let’s look at the true consequences of his selfish, malicious activities. Again, I ask you to pause and think about what were the true dynamics this little piss-ant local prosecutor put in motion that impacted our nation and even the world. Nifong sought to drive a wedge between the races in America by inflaming blacks with outrage over the fact that one of their young women had been repeatedly assaulted sexually by a group of rich, privileged, young white boys. Cynically, he pursued prosecution of these young men in the face of overwhelming exculpatory DNA evidence, which he criminally concealed from their defense attorneys.

So, what is Nifong’s real crime? To this old warrior, he is a traitor of the worst kind. He is a self-serving politico who sought to further his own career at tremendous potential harm to our nation, a nation at war. His offenses offended far beyond the borders of the electorate he sought to influence so cynically. Do you know what that makes this little worm to me? He’s a traitor, pure and simple, a traitor who put aside the greater good of you and me and our country to further his own selfish interests. He sought to divide our nation along racial lines in a time of war. That folks, that is Mike Nifong’s true crime against you and me.

This flaming asshole, who sought for totally selfish political reasons to inflame America, doesn’t deserve lifetime disbarment; he deserves dis-ballment.

I’d suggest a ceremony at nearby Fort Bragg. There are lots of sharp jump knives there.

"Do you know what that makes this little worm to me? He’s a traitor, pure and simple, a traitor who put aside the greater good of you and me and our country to further his own selfish interests"

Bullseye, Russ.  The only redeeming feature in this sad tale is that Nifong is an insignificant little worm. The same cannot be said for his counterparts in Washington, who gleefully advance the enemy's interests because they think it is to their political advantage. We all know who they are--Reid, Pelosi, Durbin--et. al. ad nauseam.

The pols, at least, have partisanship as an excuse.  What kind of twisted thinking impels a respected public institution of the stature of the Council on Foreign Relations to add its voice to the defeatist chorus, as they do here?
