Sen. Johnson Undergoes Surgery to Relieve Bleeding in Brain

WASHINGTON —  South Dakota Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson was listed in critical condition after undergoing successful brain surgery early Thursday ...

Some of the news networks, and some blogs, have been devoting significant bandwidth to analyzing the possible political implications of this situation; this blog will defer any such discussions until the Senator is out of danger. Sen. Johnson is a Viet Nam Veteran who voted for military action in Iraq knowing that might mean his own son would be placed in harm's way.  Please join us in praying for his safe recovery.

Let me clalrify one point. To the best of my knowledge, Senator Johnson was not a Viet Nam Vet, nor a vet at all. However, too his credit, I have never heard nor seen any assertion by the Senator that he was a Viet Nam Veteran, nor is there any such claim on his official Senate web page. If by chance I am wrong, and he is a Viet Nam Vet, I, and many others in his district would love have it verified. But while Senator Johnson may not be a vet, let nobody accuse him of being a wannabe.

His son did serve a tour with the 101st Airmobile Division in Afghanistan, though in what sub-unit or MOS is not known.
