Making Bets Your Body Can't Cash!
Contributed by The Gray Dog

“I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.” – Charles Rangel.

My mind shudders at the image of what contortionist position was achieved yesterday to allow John Kerry’s foot to fall out of Charlie Rangel’s mouth.  This feat is perhaps even more stunning due to the fact that Charlie’s head has been on tour of his large intestine since the Democrat House victory earlier this month.  Add Murtha to complete this Capitol Hill ménage à trois of ex-military malcontents and soon our troops will simply be seen as a marauding band of drooling, cross-eyed misfits that cannot be trusted to carry anything sharper onto the battlefield than the crayons they used to mark their “X” on the enlistment papers.

Yeah, I’m sure the elitist, east coast, blue-blood, trust fund babies are statistically underrepresented in the military.  So what?  I’m not sure I would want to be stuck in a fox hole with someone with a hyphenated last name followed by Roman Numerals.  But, I digress.

"Beyond citizenship and attainment of a certain age, just about anyone can be a congressman"

Ain't it the truth! Excellent Article. Sure don't have to wrangle over the Rangel motives.

I'm proud to say I don't qualify for that position.

Very well put Gray Dog and right to the point. I don't use my "pinky finger" either when it comes down to dealing with these people. I'm way to old to be patient and rely on my trigger finger now. It's all about survival in the long run and if this bunch continues to influence the show we "will" have a problem Houston.

It's a symptom of the Liberal worldview. For Mr. Rangel (or any other Liberal) his explanation is the only possible explanation.

See, it's all about economics. It always is. Everything is economics. Remember Marx? Remember also that modern Liberalism is really Socialism with a different name. And Socialism is Marxism without the courage of its convictions.

Love, Truth, Decency, God, Family, Country, it's all bullshit except in as far as it is an economic benefit. Everything is understood in terms of economic advantage or disadvantage.

There's a Baron whose last name starts with an M (I don't recally precisely) who said, correctly, that a Rational army would run away. There is nothing that a rational economically-motivated person would risk their life for, especially given the relatively low economic payoff in the Armed Forces. Hence all of us volunteers 'must' be in desperate economic straits to join or stay in the Army.

What he, and anyone else with such a badly diseased soul, is incapable of comprehending is the primary motivations of any Soldier are non-economic. Soldiers are amply rewarded in comradeship that goes beyond anything found elsewhere, in honor, in respect from those whose respect we desire, and in many other coins which don't show up on an accountant's balance sheet.

Rangel is displaying the glaring hole in the psyche and soul of the entire "Liberal" or "Progressive" movement in a way that is truly telling to anyone who is looking at it in that light.
