Flying The Flag
Contributed by Bill Faith

Recently, emails have been floating around expousing the idea to fly the flag on September 11th. Called the “Fly The Flag” campaign, the email urges us “to display an American flag on this fifth anniversary of our country’s worst tragedy.”

I didn’t make it very far beyond that before I replied to the email with some simple questions: Shouldn’t our flag ALREADY be flying on September 11th? Why won’t it be flying on September 10th? Why should we stop flying it on September 12th? Why do we need a special day to fly our flag? What if this email instead asked all recipients to fly the flag EVERY DAY in memory of not only those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, but those that lost their lives during the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, Grenada, Panama, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc?

Read the whole thing. I couldn't agree more.

There has been a flag flying on our home since 14Sept01.

Would have had one up sooner but there were none to be had.

I light it at night so it stays up 24/7.

The one currently flying is either the 8th or 9th flag. They don't last too long down here in the weather.

Its getting so I'm on a first name basis at my local Legion Hall where I take the old ones to be respectfully disposed of.
