From The Age:.
Muslim nations in the Middle East should arm themselves with nuclear weapons to deter Western enemies from attacking them, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said.
"They should have tanks, warplanes, warships, guns and missiles," Mahathir said.
"Yes, they need to have nuclear weapons too, because only with the possession of such would their enemies be deterred from attacking them."

should come as no surprise:

In the history of wartime espionage, few were as successful as An. He straddled two worlds for most of the 15-year war in Indochina as an undercover communist agent while also working as a journalist ...
The clip is from his as-yet-unaired chat today with Larry King. As you’ll see, he chooses his words very carefully. Clintonian indeed. ..
A quickie triptych for you from today’s Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, who wrangled an exclusive with the president while he’s in New York. The first segment is Bush getting pissy with him, for good reason; the third segment is Bush blathering meaninglessly about the Pope. The second segment? That’s the money clip. And after what Musharraf said yesterday about , it couldn’t be more timely.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- President Bush said Wednesday he would order U.S. forces to go after Osama bin Laden inside Pakistan if he received good intelligence on the fugitive al Qaeda leader's location.
"Absolutely," Bush told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an interview scheduled for air Wednesday afternoon.
Although Pakistan has said it won't allow U.S. troops to operate within its territory, "we would take the action necessary to bring him to justice." ...

It's spin time. The Associated (With Terrorists) Press is now waging a p.r. campaign against what it calls the "so-called blogosphere" over detained photographer Bilal Hussein. After five months of , the "so-called reporters" at AP finally reported what this blog reported on --that Hussein had indeed been captured by the US military in a Ramadi apartment building where bomb-making materials were found...along with an alleged al Qaeda leader. Hussein reportedly tested positive for traces of explosives.
AP reporter Robert Tanner interviewed me by phone yesterday. filed last night. Instead of focusing on AP's questionable news suppression and Hussein's so-called journalism, Tanner quotes a few critical bloggers and then devotes the rest of the article reiterating the AP's defense of Hussein's work, quoting the AP and left-wing human rights crowd's call to free or charge him, and quoting liberal bloggers accusing conservative bloggers that unearthed this story of "thuggery:" ...

A minces no words about Islamic violence and the man who tried to kill Pope John Paul II issues a warning to Pope Benedict XVI:
THE former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey of Clifton has issued his own challenge to “violent” Islam in a lecture in which he defends the Pope’s “extraordinarily effective and lucid” speech.
Lord Carey said that Muslims must address “with great urgency” their religion’s association with violence. He made it clear that he believed the “clash of civilisations” endangering the world was not between Islamist extremists and the West, but with Islam as a whole. ...
what you get when you politely ask Muslims to help root out jihadists:
Home Secretary John Reid has called on British Muslims to do more to help root out potential extremists.
In a speech Mr Reid asked Muslim parents to keep a close eye on their children and act if they suspected they were being radicalised by extremists. The comments reflect government frustration that not enough has been done since the 7 July London bombings. His speech was interrupted by a Muslim heckler who said he was "furious" about "state terrorism by British police".

Not to be outdone by his pal Ahmadinejad last night, el presidente’s having a full-blown meltdown at the podium before the General Assembly as I write this, shrieking about Bush being “the devil” and hollering “Yankee imperialists go home.” I’ll have video, but maybe not for a while; there are a lot of highlights to find and cut here. In the meantime, use this as an open thread.
Update: Here’s a short clip of the devil remark, which the audience thought was hilarious. More coming.

I’ve been following the Arar story since it broke a few days ago, with caution. It’s always wise to take initial press reports on a story like this with several grains of salt, so I tend to wait to see how things will shake out.
If you’re not familiar with the story, Canada swept up a man named Maher Arar in the wake of the 9-11 attacks. They sent him to us, because his name came up on a terror watch list. We sent him to Syria. He alleges, and the press and , that we rendered him to Syria for torture to find out what he might know about terrorists. He was innocent and is now free to accuse us of rendering for the purpose of torture, bank shotting him into our domestic interrogation debate.

The guy who tipped me to this didn’t recognize the heckler. Hot Air readers will.
I knew it was him the instant I heard his voice. The last time we heard that voice, it was laughing about 9/11.

Glass magic (Japanese)
Very impressive magic using a coin, a salt shaker and a glass table.
It's in Japanese for the most part, but you don't need to understand the language to understand what is taking place.
It's eight minutes long, but for some reason the time passes quickly. It's a fun one to watch and if you figure out how it's done PLEASE let me know.

George Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tried two completely different tactics yesterday at the UN, with both confounding expectations. Instead of attacking the United Nations as many of his supporters would have predicted, Bush instead used to speak directly to the peoples of terror-sponsoring states. Iran's president used his turn at the podium not to plead his peace-loving credentials so much but to level harsh criticism of the very body that cannot bring itself to punish his nation for its defiance. ...

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke late on Tuesday to the UN General Assembly, where he focused on "a few examples of the most pressing global issues: the unbridled expansion of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons; occupation of countries and exacerbation of hostilities; and lack of respect for the rights of members of the international community." He argued against U.S. foreign policy and against American and British membership on the Security Council. He also worked in subtle arguments against the Security Council's legitimacy. The full translated text of his remarks are below. ...

... and that force is the movement that seeks to spread Islam by the sword. Pope Benedict XVI is the spiritual and moral leader of a great religion the members of which that movement would either forcibly convert or murder. Recently, he called out that evil, related it to what plainly is its origin, and declared it "incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul." ...

I've been putting a lot of time into it. Can you tell? Aside from adding some merchandise (You'll like what we have planned.) what can I do to make it better?
