It's not all that complicated, folks.
John McCain wants to change DC, Barack Obama wants to change America.
One candidate believes in and cares about this country, one doesn't.
It's your vote. Make it count.

Down Dog

Today's "Bill's Bites" may be on the short side, partially due to 9/11 posts and partially due to the situation I alluded to here; I won't say more about that today but I'm going to have to tomorrow.

9/11, nutroots style: Olbermann to call for Bush’s impeachment
Allahpundit

Johnny Dollar, principal author of the world’s greatest watchblog, sent me a heads up a few hours ago that Olby will have yet another “special comment” tonight. No foolin’? What are the odds that he’d have a hysterical anti-Bush rant for the nutroots to pleasure themselves to on the day his new book comes out? ...

Video: Rooney blames American behavior for terrorism
Ian Schwartz

On the September 10th edition of 60 Minutes, commentator Andy Rooney says Islamofascists hate America because of our “weapons”. Partial transcript follows.

Naptime, for a good purpose

I usually take a short nap about this time to give my 9 year old nephew some computer time. Don't know what he usually does with it (Nintendizens: What's a "cheat"?) but I'm usually tired about this time anyway -- Sorta trained myself to be to keep peace in the family.

Today said nephew came in looking for the cordless phone just as I was admiring Shane's latest, saw "9/11" on the screen, and hung around a while reading over my shoulder. We ended up agreeing that today I'll take a longer nap than normal so he can read a bunch of 9/11 OWD posts, and that Uncle Bill will be available for Q & A afterward, or at any randomly chosen time in the future.

Don't want my nephew to ever understand war. Don't want my grandson to, or my sister's grandkids. Hell, I don't understand war, and I've been there, done that, got the moody spells to prove it.

Later.

MEMRI Films: Arab and Iranian reaction to 9-11
Bryan Preston

The Arab and Iranian street has been speaking ever since 9-11, mostly to blame it all on the Joooos. Or claim that we attacked ourselves. ...

Welcome to America: See you in court!
Allahpundit

I was against the Khatami visit. I don’t like the litigious aspects of American society. But who knew that putting two awful things together could taste so good?

Seven Jewish-Iranian families have filed suit in an American federal court against former President Mohammad Khatami over charges that he is responsible for the kidnapping and torture of their missing family members. The families, currently residing in Los Angeles and Israel, contend that Khatami instituted the policy of imprisoning their relatives without trials and refusing to provide them any information concerning their whereabouts. The Jews were arrested on different occasions during the years 1994 through 1997, as they sought to leave Iran across its border with Pakistan. ...

Five Years On
Bryan Preston

I remember where I was, as I’m sure you do. I remember the feeling of knowing our country was under attack the instant the second plane hit. The feeling grew and hardened when we heard by phone from someone in Washington, before any media reported it, that there was a huge plume of black smoke coming from the direction of the Pentagon. Then there was the news that there was a fourth plane, unaccounted for.

What’s changed? Not much, not enough.

Go ahead and use this as an open thread for your remembrances if you like. Here’s my own contribution: a link to an 18-minute film produced by the Port Authority in 1983 about the construction of the World Trade Center.

Kudos again to CNN for making its Internet video service, Pipeline, free for the day. They’ve been streaming the network’s coverage of 9/11 as it happened on Pipeline Channel 4 all morning; I’ve captured it all and will be stitching together video of the key moments for posterity. But first, here’s a four-minute edit of what they were showing that morning before the planes hit.

The War Continues
Bryan Preston

In Afghanistan, where NATO is still taking the fight to the Taliban:

NATO airstrikes and artillery have killed a further 92 suspected Taliban fighters, the alliance reported Monday, pushing its toll of militant dead in a 10-day offensive past 500.

Isn’t this a disproprotional response to the Taliban’s cross-border attacks and bombings? The Taliban doesn’t have an air force and hasn’t killed 500 NATO troops. Or is it only disproportional to fight terrorists when the Jews do it? ...

I really don't want to move off TypePad and start over, but this is getting fookin' ridiculous. 10:30 in the morning on 9/11 and TypePad goes down for an hour and a half. Supposedly they're back up now but you can't leave trackbacks on TypePad sites until further notice. Snarrrllll.

Facing Down A Despot?

Here’s a blast from the past.

1997 to be exact and the title of this article by Time magazine is “Facing Down A Despot”….referring to Clinton vs. Saddam of course. (h/t to long-time reader Carol)

My, what a difference a few years and a Republican in office makes huh? Below are some highlights:

Pilots Fight Background Checks For Flight Schools
Ed Morrissey

On the day when we remember the 2,996 people killed by terrorists who used their limited flight-school training to turn commercial airliners into guided missiles, the New York Sun reports that the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association plans to fight a New York law requiring background checks for students at flight schools. In the five years after 9/11, only New York has such a requirement: ...

The Difference Between Israel And Its Enemies

In Israel, Jewish terrorists get tried and convicted:

An Israeli settler who shot and killed four Palestinian civilians in the West Bank in an attempt to scuttle Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip was convicted Monday in the Jerusalem District Court on four counts of murder.

In the Palestinian Authority, their terrorists vie for power:

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said Monday he would keep his post in a coalition government between Hamas and Fatah, indicating progress in the most recent round of talks.

Poison Pregnancy

Ayman al-Zawahiri released a message to the West last night reminding everyone of the nihilism of radical Islam and its central role in the 9/11 attacks, and warned of more to come. The new message, complete with subtitles, warns that Islam is in the family way again:

Frist Underscores Border Security In Session Agenda

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist pens a column in today's Washington Examiner regarding the priorities at the top of his legislative agenda. As he promised in our interview, national security will occupy most of the Senate's time, but as I predicted, he will hit border security as a big part of that picture:

Politicizing 9/11
Dan Riehl

As far as a round up on The Path To 9/11, you can find many reactions through Memeorandum. Hot Air offers a contrast and compare between the edited and un-edited versions. While it's difficult to keep from politicizing the drama, particularly given recent antics of the Dems, as I said in a radio call in earlier today, the overall narrative is more important to America than any political opportunities involved.

Democrats can put forth whatever anti-terrorism policy they choose and take it to voters on election day. What America as a whole needs is to wake up and understand that we are indeed in a global war with radical Islam. For me, one of the most disappointing events to come from the recent controversy has to do with the Scholastic episode. Also see here.

New Zawahiri statement: "Take revenge on America"

Laura Mansfield has the lowdown on al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman Zawahiri's new 9/11 anniversary call for every Muslim to "make use of every opportunity afforded him to take revenge on America for its imprisonment of Sheikh Umar Abdel Rahman"--mastermind of the 1993 WTC bombing. There is also a generic warning: ...
