The Welfare State is Dead
Contributed by George Mellinger

Our immigration crisis, the metastatic entitlement state and our ever more intrusive government. The growth of crime and general social pathology. At first glance these are all independent problems, all pointing to the failure of our American system. but what if...What if they are all aspects of the same problem, each aspect magnifying the damage caused by other manifestations. What if the progressive nanny state is the very nexus of the cancer itself? Then perhaps the modern West European model is not our model, not the bright future we should follow, but the momentary glare as the light bulb's filament burns through. Fjordmann, writing at The Gates of Vienna suggests this is true, with a detailed look at contemporary Scandinavia. See how many of the fateful trends you can spot operating already in our own country.

No more of my words, your time is better spent reading Fjordmann.
