Peace in our time (Updated and bumped)
Contributed by Bill Faith Continued from No, no, no! God damn it, man, come to your senses before it's too late! Ariel Sharon would have been in Beirut by now, and probably Damascus. Get mad at them damned jihadis!
***
John Podhoretz is predicting the fall of the Olmert government if he goes along with this. I'd say he's earned it. *** More Podhoretz . The practical implications of this may not be as bad as they sound at first blush. Olmert still deserves to lose his job if he doesn't have balls enough to tell the UN to shove it. *** Update and bump. Original timestamp 17:13 isn't any happier with the situation than I am. doesn't think it's quite that bad, but he's not totally thrilled with it either. Dan Riehl: thinks Olmert's doing the right thing. |

The saying "next year in Israel" will turn into 'next year, next door' Posted by: | Aug 11, 2006 5:34:12 PM Posted by: Don’t be too quick to judge the Olmert government, if it should accept the UN bartered cease fire. Israel has been stuck in the rut of southern Lebanon before, and was getting picked off like fish in a barrel. Now six years later with a stronger, better armed and more entrenched enemy, it may be a reality that the vaunted IDF just isn’t capable of taking on this task by itself. We’ve kept them on leash for six decades and act surprised that they aren’t ready to run now that they are no longer tethered. I would ask where were Israel’s allies? Oh, I forget they only have one. All we have done is to provide tepid back channel support, while pushing to take the lead in brokering a deal. It seems Bush is more concerned with making a good appearance at the UN instead of providing real support to an ally in need. Hezbollah is our enemy too. I think Israel just needed a little cover from its friends. Instead it just got more “Shock and Shucks.” Posted by: | Aug 12, 2006 8:39:58 AM |
