Meanwhile, on the other edge of the world ...
Contributed by Bill Faith I'm ashamed to say I let yesterday pass without mentioning, or even realizing, that it was V-J Day + 61 years. 61 years ago Dad was on the USS Saratoga, CV-3, steaming Japanward, wondering if the Divine Wind would sweep him away like the man he'd replaced. (I miss you, Daddy.) I took Mom to run a couple of errands yesterday. She commented on the fact the city had flags out on all the utility poles, etc, and said she thought it might be V-J Day but she wasn't sure; by the time we got home I'd forgotten the conversation. The occasion did not pass unnoticed in Japan and the surrounding area. Don't miss Sachi's post here. |
