Lieberman concedes to Lamont, vows to run in November
Georgia's McKinney loses to primary challenger
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Sen. Joseph Lieberman conceded to cable executive Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary for the Connecticut Senate nomination Tuesday night but vowed to run as an "independent Democrat" this fall.
With 94 percent of the precincts reporting, Lamont led Lieberman 52 percent to 48 percent, according to The Associated Press.
Lieberman, who was former Vice President Al Gore's running mate in 2000, is seeking a fourth Senate term. Lamont, a former Greenwich city councilman, is running his first statewide campaign.
After telling his supporters that he had called Lamont to congratulate him on his victory, Lieberman said "We've just finished the first half and the Lamont team is ahead, but, in the second half, our team -- Team Connecticut -- is going to surge forward to victory in November"

There was some discussion within the pack today about establishing a separate subsite where we'd post "official" OWD positions on some key issues, endorse particular candidates, etc. We came to our senses. Other than our reflexive disgust as veterans with people like Jean Fraud Kerry and Mad Jack Murtha the pack, as an entity, has no business getting involved it the political scene. That isn't to say that as individuals we won't continue to express our opinions on politicians and things political, just that we won't take any official pack position.
I for one, as an individual, recognize that there's no hope of Connecticut electing a Republican Senator in November. That being the case, expect me, as one of several individuals posting on the same blog, to do what I can to see Joe Lieberman win his battle against nutroots peacenik candidate Ned Lamont.

Lieberman Vows To Run In November Ed Morrissey
As I predicted, the close race has encouraged Joe Lieberman to against Ned Lamont. He conceded defeat in the primary, but vowed to run as an independent in the November general election:
Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman (news, bio, voting record) conceded defeat on Tuesday in the Democrat primary to a challenger who attacked the former vice presidential nominee's support for the Iraq war and accused him of being too close to President George W. Bush.
In a speech to supporters, the three-term senator also said he will file to run as an independent candidate in the autumn election.
