Things will be picking up around here
Contributed by Bill Faith Just some notes on the site. Those of you who know me from know that I tend to be mainly a "linker." When I don't have other things going on I may post 25 or 30 "Don't miss this" posts a day to try to keep you from missing anything of major importance on the other MilBlogs or conservative sites, adding some thoughts of my own on some of them but not on others. Occasionally I'm in the mood for longer posts, but not on any predictable basis. If you've scrolled through the site a little, you've probably also noticed that some of the other Dogs tend more toward the "thinker" personna. I may do 20 posts while George is working on one, but his will likely be worth 25 of mine, and who can place a value on one of Russ's poems? I think there's room for several types of blogger on one site and I hope you'll agree. For now, I'm not doing as much "linking" as I used to do in a typical day at STV or probably will in a typical day here. Why? Because I'm also the webmaster for the site, which isn't in it's final form yet, as well as doing some other behind the scenes things. After the site is out of its infancy I'll be spending more time on blogging and less time on other things. If I'm counting correctly we currently have 4 Dogs who haven't posted yet, although I'm sure they will in the future. In Jim's case it's a "technical matter" that I didn't explain as well as I should have -- I only figured out where the disconnect was a few minutes ago. We don't have any predetermined upper limit on the number of Dogs we'll eventually welcome into the pack. I just sent an email to an old dog whose comments I liked on another site, and I'll be sending another one soon to a retired NCO I know through one of my few non-bogging activities. I can't bring them into the pack without discussing them with the others (I could, but that isn't the way we do things), but I think they're both strong candidates if they're interested. For now joining the pack is a "Don't call us, we'll call you" thing, but that may change in the future. If it does the change will be announced on the site. In the mean time, the best way to attract our attention is to leave comments we like on Old War Dogs or some of the other sites we frequent. If you sound like someone we'd get along with and Basic Training was long time ago we just might be in touch. Update: When I used George as my example "thinker" I didn't by any means intend to slight any of the other Dogs. Zero's style seems to be somewhere between George's and mine, and John proved in the post just below this one (which I hadn't seen when I wrote the earlier part of this post) that he also has a strong "thinker" streak. Folks, I am really gonna like this place. I may stay too busy reading what the other Dogs write to pull my share of the load. |

As you know, I do abuse too. When wisdom cannot be delivered through the ear, sometimes it may be best transmitted kinetically via the nose. Posted by: | Jul 8, 2006 4:24:30 PM |
