The Warrior Fund --Scam or Victim - A status report
Contributed by George Mellinger As one of the dogs, initially having trouble, and as one of the chief pointer dogs, it is time to bring you all up to speed. I have quietly investigated with a number of contacts. They shall remain anonymous, but include two of the most respected milbloggers and an individual specializing in chasing wannabes. I have heard what I hoped to hear, that the retired USMC Major who is behind this project is legitimate. One of our people has received an e-mail, and I have now been able to send e-mail to their leader without it bouncing, though without a response either. At this point, I believe that we can accept that Warrior Fund is indeed a legitimate organization. However, I am still uncertain whether it will prove to be an effective organization, or one of those well-meaning, but bumbling groups which fail to deliver significant results out to the pointy end. I hope for the best but still have to consider this unproven. In the interim, there is another proven organization working the same street. was founded in early 2005 by Merry Pantano, mother of USMC Lieutenant Ilario Pantano, when he was put on trial for the alleged murder of two Iraqis. At the same time she was all over the radio, internet, and editorial pages. As you remember, as the trial approached, Lt. Pantano was not just exonerated, but vindicated. But DTD stuck around knowing there would be subsequent moments such as now. In 2005 I supported Defend the Defenders, and found that all worked well. So I endorse them from prior experience while waiting to clarify Warrior Fund's status. . If Warrior Fund works out, no reason we can't post links for both of them. After all we don't choose between the Soldiers' Angels, Fisher House, and Valor IT. Ever hear of the steak and lobster platter? Why not support 'em all? Now I wish I could find a nice charity dedicated to sending rat poison for Iranians.
-Rurik UPDATE - Further research seems to confirm conclusively the legitimacy of , and to suggest that the previous problems were due to a series of technical glitches, now resolved. I think we can say, go ahead and contribute with confidence. Of course, if you want to contribute to both Warriors and Defenders, there's nothing wrong with that either. And if you're feeling successful and grateful, maybe a little something to the Angels...to help out the troops before they get in a jam. |
