Call this a footnote

I linked here earlier with Riverine Force and the trouble the Navy is having about funding.

Now there's this story: Marines keep Iraq’s waterways safe , kinda makes one go "Doh!", I think.

HADITHA, Iraq (July 7, 2006) --  In Iraq, a country where temperatures often soar above 110 degrees and terrain is mostly fine grains of sand, Cpl. Derek Metallo never thought he’d find himself patrolling Al Anbar province in a boat when he arrived three months ago.

Seems that the Marines got there first.

Being on the water would be an advantage if you had to fight a war in a desert for sure. I got to do time with a bridge building unit at Ft Riley and loved it. We'd take the "split boats" out to Lake Milfred and put them together for exercises. A few of us realized that somebody had to watch the boats on the weekends. Anyhow, those twin slant 6 Chryslers used a lot of petrol while we watched them. You've just got to be in the right place at the right time………
Nice to meet you ZP! I'll try to keep us covered.....
